Free Pumpkin Quilt Block!

If you know me, you know I love Halloween. And if there is one thing I might love even more than Halloween, it’s Halloween fabric.

Every year the Halloween collections come out and apparently I forget that I already own an unreasonable amount of orange, black, purple, ghosts, pumpkins, skeletons, and tiny little bats. I buy more anyway. I have no regrets.

So, naturally, I needed another excuse to sew with it.

I made this free pumpkin quilt block because sometimes you don’t need an entire new quilt pattern. Sometimes you just want to pull out your Halloween stash, make something cute, and enjoy an afternoon at your sewing machine.

And pumpkins are one of those things I never get tired of making.

Make It as Halloween-y as You Want

Of course, you can make this a traditional fall pumpkin with oranges, rusts, creams, and all those pretty autumn colors.

But me? I’m reaching for the Halloween fabric.

Give me the weird oranges, the blacks, the purples, the novelty prints, the tiny ghosts, and the fabric that I bought three years ago because I had to have it and then was too afraid to cut into.

This is exactly the kind of project that fabric has been waiting for.

It’s also a great scrap project. Your pumpkins certainly don’t need to match, and I actually think they’re more fun when they don’t.

What Should You Make With It?

Whatever you want!

Make one block and turn it into a pillow or a little wall hanging. Make a few for a table runner. Add one to the front of a tote bag. Make an entire pile of them and turn them into a quilt.

Personally, I love projects like this because there’s no big commitment. You can sit down, make a block, dig through your stash, and just enjoy sewing for the sake of sewing.

And if that somehow turns into 20 pumpkin blocks and another quilt...well, these things happen.
