How it all Started...
Hi, I’m Amy.
I’m the person behind The Cotton Cure.
I’m a wife, a mom to three boys, a nurse, a quilt pattern designer, and someone who owns entirely too much fabric and will probably continue buying it anyway.
I’ve been sewing for years, but quilting became something much bigger for me during a season of my life when I really needed it.
When my older boys were babies, we had moved to Oregon and I didn’t know anyone. I was home with two little kids, my husband was working, and I was lonely. Really lonely.
I needed something that was mine.
So I started sewing more.
At first, it was simply an outlet. It gave me something creative to do during a time when my days mostly revolved around babies and being at home. I could sit down at my sewing machine, work with my hands, play with fabric, and make something that had absolutely nothing to do with diapers, bottles, or nap schedules.
But somewhere along the way, quilting gave me something I wasn't expecting.
It gave me people.
I started meeting other quilters. I found this huge community of creative, funny, incredibly talented people who understood why cutting perfectly good fabric into tiny pieces just to sew it back together again was a completely reasonable way to spend an afternoon.
Some of those people became real friends.
And quilting genuinely changed my life.
The cure for my loneliness was cotton, hence, The Cotton Cure.
WHERE IT'S GOING...
I love designing quilts that look impressive but are actually enjoyable to make. I want my patterns to have clear, thorough instructions that take the guesswork out of the process. I've been sewing long enough to know there is nothing fun about spending your limited sewing time trying to figure out what a pattern writer meant.
I also really love fabric. Like...really love fabric.Halloween fabric might be my particular weakness, but I love playing with color, mixing prints, finding unexpected combinations, and watching an idea that existed only in my head slowly turn into an actual quilt.
And even after all these years, I still genuinely love sitting down at my sewing machine and making something.
When I’m Not Quilting...There’s a whole other side of my life that looks very different from my sewing room.I’ve been a nurse for most of my adult life, and nursing is a huge part of who I am. I recently completed my first year of my Nurse Practitioner program, which means these days I’m usually bouncing between work, school, my family, and quilting, often wondering why I apparently refuse to choose hobbies or careers that involve sitting still.Life is busy. Sometimes ridiculously busy.
But I think that's also part of why I still need quilting. What started all those years ago as an outlet during a lonely season of my life is still the place I go when I need to create, decompress, laugh, connect with people, or just make something because I want to.
The Cotton Cure has grown and changed over the years, but that part hasn't. I'm incredibly glad you're here. Whether you've made one of my patterns, watched one of my tutorials, followed along on Instagram, or somehow just stumbled onto this little corner of the internet., welcome to my space. Pull up a chair. We probably have some fabric to talk about.
