DIY Label Binder Tutorial

If you sew or quilt long enough, you eventually accumulate a ridiculous number of labels.

And if you're anything like me, they're probably tucked into drawers, stuffed into little bags, mixed in with notions, or sitting in a pile somewhere that you swear you're going to organize eventually.

Enter: the Label Binder.

This is one of those simple little sewing projects that makes my sewing space feel approximately 87% more organized than it actually is.

I wanted a way to keep all of my labels together where I could actually see what I have. Instead of digging through a container every time I finish a quilt, I can flip through my binder, find the perfect label, grab it, and move on with my life.

And obviously, if we're going to organize sewing supplies, we might as well make the organizer cute.

Why I Love the Label Binder

The best thing about this project is that it's practical without being complicated.

It gives all of those woven labels, quilt labels, size labels, handmade tags, and random little labels we've collected over the years a designated home.

Everything is easy to see, easy to access, and, perhaps most importantly, actually gets used.

Because I can't be the only person who has bought adorable labels, carefully put them somewhere "safe," and then completely forgotten they existed.

Make It Your Own

This is also a great project for using fabric you already have.

Pick a favorite print, coordinate it with your sewing room, use scraps from a favorite quilt, or finally cut into that fabric you've been hoarding because it's "too cute to use."

You know the one.

You can make your binder as simple or as extra as you'd like. That's half the fun.

I walk you through the entire process in the video so you can sew right along with me.

This is a great little afternoon project, and once you make one, you'll wonder why your labels spent so many years living loose in a drawer.

Now they're organized.

They're easy to find.

They're cute.

And for once, we can pretend we have our sewing rooms completely under control.

Happy sewing!
